Goals and Objectives
The City of East Point continuously strives to promote overall safety and increase the quality of life for each resident. Vehicles traveling at excessive speeds, or commuter traffic inappropriately using residential streets as a shortcut to other collector and arterial streets, adversely affects public safety and the general qualify of life for residents.
This Program seeks to provide a combination of engineering, education, and enforcement tools to minimize these adverse effects and provide a singular process, which can be used by both City staff and residents alike, to formally address these concerns.
Each neighborhood has unique needs and concerns that must be reviewed and considered to ensure that the appropriate solution is applied. In addition to neighborhood concerns the City must recognize the needs of other users, such as the City’s emergency services, which can be negatively impacted by some traffic calming solutions when trying to respond quickly to an emergency call. Final solutions must balance the needs of emergency responders against the needs of the residential community to calm traffic. Traffic Calming Petition
The specific objectives are:
- Reduce excessive vehicle speeds in residential neighborhoods,
- Reduce the volume of commuter traffic inappropriately using residential streets as a shortcut to other collector or arterial streets,
- Promote conditions that encourage walkable neighborhoods,
- Reduce potential for collisions,
- Encourage citizen and neighborhood involvement.
TSPLOST Referendum Information
During the November 2021 election voters across Fulton County will be asked to decide if they want to continue funding local transportation projects through collection of a $0.0075 sales tax known as TSPLOST or Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. If approved by voters, the TSPLOST would be effective April 2022 to March 2027.
TSPLOST proceeds would be distributed to Fulton County and its cities (excluding Atlanta) based on resident population. Based on current projections, it is estimated that the 2021 TSPLOST would generate $31 Million to fund transportation improvements in East Point. County-wide, it is estimated that the 2021 TSPLOST would generate $545 Million to be invested in transportation projects.
Tier-1 Projects from the 2016 TSPLOST 1 list will continue to be funded with revenue collected through April 2022.
Tier 2 & 3 Projects from the 2016 TSPLOST list have be rolled over to Tier 1 of the new 2021 TSPLOST.
