Our Purpose

The Department of Planning & Community Developments’ purpose is to serve the public in the development, maintenance and redevelopment of properties located in the municipal limits of the City of East Point, Georgia. Our department guides the city of East Points’ growth and development through enforcing building codes and ordinances to protect the life, safety and welfare of East Point’s citizens and patrons.  We accomplish this through our four distinct, yet interrelated divisions: Permits, Building Inspections, Planning and Business License.

Our Mission

The Planning and Community Development Department mission is to protect and advance the quality of life by applying sound land use planning principles, development standards, and building codes.  We aim to facilitate informed land use decisions through community participation and collaborative processes.  The department strives to protect and enhance safe, livable neighborhoods that reflect and preserve East Point’s unique cultural and historic character.  It is also the departments mission to support and encourage healthy reinvestment in the community to provide for a strong local economy. 

Our Responsibilities

The Department of Planning and Community Developments’ responsibilities are to review and approve plans for development for compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances. Perform inspections on all structures to ensure compliance with all International Building Codes and other City/State requirements. Review completed applications for consideration of changes to ordinances, rezoning, variances and special uses by the Planning & Zoning Commission. And maintain the City’s Comprehensive Plan, Land Use Map, Zoning Map, Zoning Ordinances and other official planning documents and ordinances.
