Inspections
The Inspection division is responsible for the life, health, safety and welfare of East Point citizens, contractors, and developers during construction. Our division ensures that construction is in accordance with all the adopted codes by the International Code Council (ICC), the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), The National Electrical Code (NEC), and the Georgia Accessibility Codes.
Construction codes establish the minimum requirements for the built environment to safeguard public health, safety, and general welfare. These standards for “structural strength, means of egress facilities, stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, energy conservation” have an intended goal of “safety to life and property from fire and other hazards”. The related permit inspections provide a means of compliance verification for these standards.
Inspections Request
It shall be the duty of the permit holder or their agent to notify the building official that such work is ready for inspection by submitting an inspection request online. It shall be the duty of the person requesting any inspections required by the code to provide access to and means for inspection of such work. We do not inspect occupied homes without the owner or authorized agent been present. Lock box codes are acceptable for unoccupied sites. However, inspectors will not make inspections with activated alarm systems.

Approval Required
Work shall not be done beyond the point indicated in each successive inspection without first obtaining the approval of the building official. The building official upon notification, shall make the requested inspections and shall either indicate the portion of the construction that is satisfactory as completed, or shall notify the permit holder or an agent of the permit holder wherein the same fails to comply with this code. Any portions that do not comply shall be corrected and such portions shall not be covered or concealed until authorized by the building official. The Building Official reserves the right to deny third party engineer reports for any work covered and concealed prior to inspection approvals. Any work covered with drywall shall be removed to permit inspection of said work.
